Seasoned Broadcast Journalist and host of Okay FM’s Egyaso Gyaso political programme Afia Pokua (Vim lady) has urged the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect Vice President Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 Presidential Elections.
In a recent edition of her widely-listened programme, “Vim Lady” stated that Dr Bawumia is the only one who can match up to John Dramani Mahama, who is tipped to lead the NDC once again into the elections.
According to the former Adom FM host, aside Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the Vice President remains the NPP’s most marketed person and the party’s sure bet to retain power in 2024.
“There is no candidate in NPP that can match John Mahama than Bawumia. After this election petition and going into 2024, theres no bother in NPP who deserves to lead the party into 2024 than Dr Bawumia”.
“Irrespective of Alan Kyeremanteng and whoever wants to contest, If the party does not choose Bawumia as flagbearer the NPP should know that it has lost the elections in advance.”
“Of all the people who have shown interest to contest for the flagbearship Bawumia has marketed himself better”, the political show host stated.
She indicated that Dr. Bawumia considering his role as running mate from 2008 and his sterling performance before the Supreme Court during the 2013 Presidential petition, , there is no way the NPP can choose anyone else to lead the party after Nana Akufo Addo exits.
“If I were NDC, we will not even campaign if the NPP fails to elect Bawumia as flagbearer. All we will see is to campaign that NPP does not like Northerners. He is the best person to face Mahama, who has also been marketed over the years”, she reiterated.
The affable Dr Bawumia was running mate of the NPP since 2008, was key in the party’s electoral victory in 2016 where he managed to swoop votes from the Norther part of the party.
His impressive performance as Head of the government’s Economic Management Team featured prominently in the NPP’s re-election bid which culminated in the second term for the Akufo-Addo administration.
With the race for the flagbearship hitting up within the party, many have opined that the NPP should avoid a heated internal campaign and rally behind the sitting vice President to retain power in 2024.
