The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama will not serve as a witness in his Elections Petition before the Supreme Court.
Dr Kpessah Whyte and other NDC functionaries will serve as witnesses in court in a case which has John Mahama as the petitioner.
This is contrary to statements made by the NDC and its officials during the early stages of preparations to petition the Supreme Court where they stated that John Mahama would be a key witness.
Most supporters of the opposition party where also expecting to see how John Mahama would demonstrate what he claims as the legitimate declaration of President Akufo Addo as winner of the 2020 December Elections by the Electoral Commission.
However contrary to their expectations, the former President in his witness statements and arguments in response to the preliminary objection raised by the respondents, has opted to have others represent him in court.
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the petitioner and warned it will take appropriate actions against him if he fails to comply with the order to file the witness statements and arguments by the given deadline.l, Thursday January 28.
These actions, the court said could include the dismissal of the petition.
