As the 2020 Elections campaign heats up, Flagbearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress John Dramani Mahama has been caught in a video sharing money to some voters.
The Former President was clearly seen in his open-top campaign vehicle and openly doling out cash to the voters around with the song “Mahama Paper” loudly playing in the background.
Ahead of the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in December, concerns have been raised about the phenomenon of vote-buying in political contests.
The conduct of the ex-president Mahama is worrying and unacceptable especially by someone who has occupied the two most important positions in the country.
This is not the first time the NDC flagbearer has been cited in a vote buying allegation as he was seen in a video handing out money to some market women ahead of the 2016 Elections.
At the time, key figures of the NDC came out saying that there was nothing wrong or unusual in giving out money to voters.
This comes in the wake of various advocacy groups including the Corruption Watch, an initiative of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), sounding alarms about how pervasive the phenomenon of vote-buying has become in Ghana.
